Discover the secret heart of the Himalayan foothills - Dhorpatan Valley, Nepal's only hunting reserve, Bukipatan alpine meadows and Jaljala viewpoint. Travel from Kathmandu by Scorpio 4WD, with scenic drives and hiking experiences through the Dhorpatan region.
Discover remote mountain valleys, Nepal's only hunting reserve, alpine grasslands, Himalayan viewpoints, sacred sites and an unforgettable off-road journey through one of Nepal's least-explored regions.
Dhorpatan Valley sits at approximately 3,000m in the remote hills of Baglung and Rukum districts - a wide, open mountain valley that Dhorpatan remains far less visited than Nepal’s established trekking and touring regions.
Unlike the crowded trails of the Annapurna and Everest regions, Dhorpatan remains genuinely off the mainstream tourist map.
The valley offers an extraordinary combination - vast open grasslands, traditional mountain villages, Himalayan views and a wildlife sanctuary unlike anything else in Nepal.
This is the Nepal most travelers never find.
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is the only legal hunting reserve in Nepal - a protected area covering more than 1,325 square kilometres of high-altitude terrain in the Dhaulagiri region.
The reserve is home to blue sheep (bharal), Himalayan tahr, ghoral and snow leopard - some of Nepal's most prized and elusive Himalayan wildlife.
Even without hunting, the reserve is a spectacular destination for wildlife observation, natural landscapes and photography.
The reserve is known as habitat for blue sheep and other Himalayan wildlife, although sightings depend on season, location and natural conditions.
Bukipatan is one of the highlights of the extended 4 Nights 5 Days package - a high-altitude alpine meadow above Dhorpatan that offers sweeping Himalayan views and a genuine wilderness atmosphere.
The hike from Dhorpatan to Bukipatan passes through open terrain with blue sheep territory above and the Himalayan range stretching across the northern horizon.
Combined with the early morning hike to Tikadhara on Day 3, this section of the 5-day package is one of the most rewarding short alpine experiences accessible from Kathmandu without committing to a multi-week trek.
Jaljala is a high viewpoint in the Dhorpatan region with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.
The Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs can be visible on clear days, creating one of the most rewarding scenic experiences of the journey.
The viewpoint adds a genuine scenic dimension to an already richly varied tour — combining culture, wildlife, remote landscapes and Himalayan panoramas in one destination.
Dhorbaraha Temple is a sacred religious site in the Dhorpatan area - a mountain shrine that adds a spiritual dimension to what is primarily an adventure and nature destination.
The combination of a sacred temple, wildlife reserve and alpine grasslands within the same valley gives Dhorpatan a uniquely complete character.
Both Dhorpatan packages conclude with a night in Pokhara - Nepal's lakeside city and the gateway to the Annapurna region.
After the raw mountain landscapes and remote roads of Dhorpatan, the contrast of Phewa Lake, lakeside restaurants and the relaxed Pokhara atmosphere makes the perfect final chapter to the journey.
The 5-day package also includes Baglung Kalika Temple darshan and Kushma Suspension Bridge - adding cultural and scenic stops on the return journey to Pokhara.
A protected Himalayan habitat associated with blue sheep, Himalayan tahr and other mountain wildlife. - the only hunting reserve in Nepal.
Dhorpatan remains genuinely unexplored territory for most Nepal travelers and offers a completely different experience from the country's mainstream destinations.
Travel by Scorpio 4WD through remote mountain roads and rugged sections leading toward Dhorpatan and the surrounding highlands.
Alpine meadows, wildlife habitat, Himalayan panoramas and traditional mountain villages offer fresh and rarely photographed visual territory.
Already explored Mustang, Muktinath or Pokhara? Dhorpatan offers a completely different and lesser-known chapter of Nepal.
Choose 3N/4D for the essential Dhorpatan experience or 4N/5D for Bukipatan, Tikadhara and a deeper wilderness journey.

Spring can offer favourable conditions for exploring the valley and observing wildlife, although sightings are never guaranteed.
Autumn offers the clearest Himalayan views from Jaljala and Tikadhara - Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range sharp and visible after monsoon.
Monsoon access to Dhorpatan can be significantly affected by road conditions - the mountain roads in Baglung and Rukum districts are sensitive to heavy rainfall and landslide risk.
Blue sheep (bharal) grazing on the open rocky slopes above Dhorpatan - one of the most distinctive wildlife photography opportunities in Nepal outside of Mustang. Early morning may offer better wildlife-observation conditions, although sightings remain unpredictable.
Best in early morning when herds are active.

Wildlife sightings - particularly blue sheep - are nature-dependent and cannot be guaranteed. Best chances in early morning on open slopes.
Roads to Dhorpatan are mountain roads - Scorpio 4WD is used throughout for this reason. Some sections are rough - expect an adventurous rather than a smooth road experience.
Monsoon season (June-August) significantly affects road access to Dhorpatan. Heavy rainfall can increase the risk of road delays, landslides and access restrictions. Spring and Autumn strongly recommended.
Accommodation at Bukipatan (5D package Day 2) is basic - clean but simple mountain facilities. Dhorpatan and Pokhara hotels are more comfortable.
Seats are limited per departure. 30% advance confirms your seat. Full payment before departure from Kathmandu.
Do not plan tight onward connections on the final day - mountain road return times can vary based on conditions.
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is Nepal's only legal hunting reserve - a protected area covering over 1,325 square kilometres in the Dhaulagiri zone. It is home to blue sheep, Himalayan tahr, ghoral and snow leopard. Even without hunting, it is one of Nepal's finest wildlife observation areas.
The 3N/4D package covers the essential Dhorpatan Valley experience - hunting reserve, Jaljala viewpoint and Pokhara. Perfect for those with limited time.
The 4N/5D package adds Bukipatan alpine meadows, Tikadhara hike, blue sheep territory, Kushma Bridge and Baglung Kalika Temple - a fuller and more rewarding wilderness experience. Recommended for travelers who want the complete Dhorpatan adventure.
Blue sheep inhabit parts of the Dhorpatan and Bukipatan region, and sightings are possible during quiet periods on open slopes. However, wildlife encounters depend on season, weather and natural movement and cannot be guaranteed. Binoculars are recommended.
The 3N/4D package is primarily vehicle-based with short walks around Dhorpatan.
The 4N/5D package includes proper hiking - the Bukipatan hike from Dhorpatan and the early morning Tikadhara hike above Bukipatan. These are moderate hikes on open mountain terrain.
Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are the recommended seasons. Monsoon significantly affects road access. Winter brings snow to upper sections and some routes may be restricted.
Both are remote western Nepal destinations by Jeep. Upper Mustang is a restricted area with ancient walled cities and Tibetan Buddhist culture. Dhorpatan is a wildlife and nature destination - Nepal's only hunting reserve with alpine meadows, blue sheep and open Himalayan grasslands. Different in character but equally rewarding.
